It is the sequel to the original Contra and part of the Contra series. The game stars Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, as they are sent to thwart another alien invasion. Both the arcade version and the NES version have been re-released in various other platforms since their original releases.
Plot
A year after the battle with the Red Falcon Organization, Bill and Lance are sent on another mission. This time, the alien forces have taken over an allied military base, possessing most of its troops. Bill and Lance must not only fight against their former comrades-in-arms, but also a new mutated form of the same alien creatures they fought during their previous mission.
Gameplay
Like in the original Contra, the game can be played by up to two players simultaneously. The left player controls Bill (who wears green in this installment), while the right player controls Lance (who wears purple). The game retains the side-scrolling format from the previous game, discarding only the pseudo-3D and fixed screen segments. Instead, Super Contra features vertically-scrolling stages played from an overhead perspective, in which the player can move in eight directions. The controls remain mostly the same during the side-scrolling segments, with the only difference is that the player can now control the height of his jump by holding the joystick upwards or downwards while pressing the jump button.

About the game
The year is 2634, just one year after the event in the original Contra. Colonel Hal travels to South America to execute military maneuvers of the GX army. The Signal warns him about the rebellion of the GX army for unknown reasons, and of course, the high command chooses Bill and Lance to investigate.
When the two of them enter the ruins of the base they are immediately attacked by the rebel soldiers. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that these soldiers’ skin was blue and their eyes were red. The evil alien race they destroyed in Galuga somehow mutated and now control the bodies of their brothers in arms.
Traveling through different locations and killing many aliens on the way. Bill and Lance took care of the dirty business first hand, with new and more powerful weapons. They are going through all this to get to the cave where the evil alien leader is controlling everything.
Same as before?
The game looks pretty similar to the first one, as it has the same graphic engine. The characters barely changed from the first game, and the sprites are pretty similar. But the graphics part is not the main thing about this game. Sure, it could not compete against games like Metroid, especially in character design. But it’s still one of the fan-favorite classics, it even keeps getting new releases and remakes.
Review
Super C is one of the most action packing classics the NES has to offer. A full-speed bullet-hell, tough experience, and hardcore gameplay. Super Contra varied scenery looked and played amazingly. While it is a tough title, the cooperative mode is amazing, team up with someone else to shoot some aliens up and prove they should never mess with the Earth again.
