Cooking on the Square set for Oct. 25

Advance tickets are now on sale for the 23rd Cooking on the Square, Friday, Oct. 25 from 11am – 1:30pm. Advance tickets are available at most local banks and Habitat ReStore (open Wed.-Sat. 10am -5pm). Tickets are $20 in advance until Wed., Oct. 23. After that date the tickets will be $25 at the gates. Gates will be located on North Jefferson and Progressive Savings Bank’s entrance at the intersection of Broad Street and Dixie Avenue.

New this year is the addition of Washington Avenue. Sweet Street, featuring 18 bake teams, will be located on Washington Avenue and the 65 cook teams will be on Jefferson and Broad Street. Opening a new street allowed Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity to honor the founders of the event. Clemons-Calcote Corner was named in honor of John Clemons, retired Cookeville Fire Department, and Don Calcote, former owner of BookWorks on the square and former executive of Community Bank. At the time, John was a member of the Habitat board and he enjoyed cooking. Don’s hobby was as an artist creating bowls. The two came up with this fundraising idea and the Habitat board gave them permission to move forward. Now 23 years later, Habitat is building the 12th home funded from the event.

WillowPointe Wealth Management at UBS is the presenting sponsor again this year. Numerous other businesses are participating as sponsors.

More than 3,200 handcrafted bowls will be available for this year’s event. And for those who only come to enjoy the delicious food and fellowship, more than 800 souvenir mugs will also be available at both entrances at the Grab N Go locations.

This year’s event is helping build an affordable home for the Bustos family. Every ticket purchased will purchase materials for Habitat to build this home. The home is expected to be completed in the winter and the Bustos family will purchase the home with an affordable mortgage, giving them security and stability to continue raising their family of three children.
